Join the Diamond Site Council

We would like to invite the Diamond parent community to run for election to fill three open positions for Parent Representatives to the William Diamond Site Council.

The purpose of a school site council is to:

  • assist the principal in adopting educational goals for the schools,
  • assist the principal in the identification of the educational needs of the students,
  • assist the principal in the review of the annual school budget,
  • assist the principal in the formulation of a school improvement plan.

Please send an email to to declare your candidacy by Friday, May 19th, and please write a short/quick paragraph on your platform/background to distribute on the ballots. To be eligible for one of the vacated two year terms, you must have a student (any grade) at Diamond for the 2017-2018 school year.

The Diamond PTA is a separate entity and is not affiliated directly with the School Site Council but we are assisting the principal with the search. We hope to hold elections starting Wednesday, May 24th.

If you have any question on the commitments and work of the school site council, please feel free to contact any of the current elected site council members: Curt Barrentine, Sean Han, Deepika Sawhney, Yi Yang, and Dan Strollo.

What is the School Site Council?

School Councils are required to be in place for all school in Massachusetts as part of the Education Reform Act of 1993. School Councils are representative, school building-based committees composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

The membership of the school council includes the principal, five elected parent members, three teachers and a community member. The council should broadly represent the racial and ethnic diversity of the school building and community.

The Massachusetts Department of Education’s website provides detailed information about the mission and the responsibilities of Site-Based Councils.
